Description
1950s U.S.A. Minute Women "Guarding the Land We Love" 1.75 x 1.5 inch red white and blue enamel pin.
This pin is frequently represented as a World War 2 item; it is actually from the early Cold War/Korean War period;
"The Minute Women were a national group founded
in September 1949. They grew rapidly, and by
1952 they had over 50,000 members. They were predominantly white middle and upper-class women aged between thirty and sixty, with school-aged or grown children. Chapters were relatively small, numbering only a few dozen to a few hundred people. The Houston chapter, which later became famous, was one of the largest in the nation with around 500 members. Over sixty of the Houstonian Minute Women were doctors' wives, reflecting medical opposition to "socialized medicine.
"
I bought this on the assumption that it was a
World War 2 item; I am de-accessioning items from my collection.

Condition: enamel pin has some cracking of the enamel near the bottom with loss of one fragment of enamel. there is also a little minute "crazing" near the top, so condition is not perfect; see photos for more information on condition.
